Low-Level Laser Therapy
Low-Level Laser Therapy represents a non-invasive and non-pharmacological technique for inducing a photochemical response in dysfunctional or affected tissues. Laser therapy can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and expedite the healing processes in numerous acute and chronic conditions. The primary objective of treatment for pain and degenerative conditions is to improve the function and mobility of affected structures.
Clinical studies have shown that this therapy stabilizes, enhances laboratory values, and produces positive changes in diseases resistant to other forms of therapy. Blood irradiation is one of the most effective methods for revitalizing the body and purifying the blood. Blood cells are renewed, and the erosion of blood vessels is reduced. Nutrient and oxygen delivery to cells is improved, while hyperlipemia and toxin levels in the blood are decreased.
By stimulating cellular metabolism as a result of exposure to the light beam, the healing processes are accelerated.
Photons (laser beam with a wavelength ranging from 650 to 1300 nm) that penetrate the tissues are absorbed by cells. The energy produced as a result of absorption is dissipated as heat, causing a slight warming of the tissue.
Once inside the cell, photons activate cytochrome c within the mitochondria, thereby increasing ATP production and simultaneously intensifying cellular metabolism. In addition, the laser also stimulates the production of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species, which are involved in inflammatory responses and other cellular signaling pathways.
NO is a molecule essential for cellular signaling processes and also a significant vasodilator. The concurrent production of these three molecules results in increased growth factor concentrations, cell proliferation, and motility, as well as metabolic pathways involved in cell viability processes.
NO causes the dilation of blood vessels, improving capillary circulation in affected tissues, thereby increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients and the removal of toxic byproducts. This, in turn, reduces pain and inflammation in the body while promoting the healing processes.
